If your daily load includes a laptop, a charger, cables, lunch and a change of clothes, a backpack is the only format that handles all of it without tiring one side of your body. It's also the most versatile: a good one works for walking, cycling, public transit and air travel.

What to look for in any laptop bag

Laptop compartment: A padded compartment that fits your actual laptop is the non-negotiable. It needs to match your screen size with a little clearance, not just carry a generic label that says "fits a laptop." Material: Full-grain leather is the strongest, most durable grade of leather. It holds its shape and stays distinguished with age. Bonded and corrected leather (the grades often marketed as "genuine leather") cracks, peels and sags, sometimes within a year.
